A More Sacred Version of the Present Today

A More Sacred Version of the Present Today

Singing in the Monastery of the Heart #7

Seeking the rhythm

Of a better way

Making tomorrow

A more sacred version

Of the present today.

This cycle of poems has been inspired by ‘The Monastery of the Heart’ by Joan Chittester. Previous poems in the cycle can be read after the image.

1.

Everyone lives

In a monastery

In the monastery

Of the heart.

~

2.

Easy to think sometimes

Life is lonely

But in solitude

Can be found

Such a sense

Of belonging

Quietude

That grounds the soul

And make the heart

To sing.

3.

An invitation

To a meaningful life

Where the only frontier

Is God’s infinity

Of love reaching

From infinity to here.

~

4.

We all seek

But how many find

The grail?

And to fail

Is to understand

That God

The answer

Waits

Always

Beyond.

5.

We seek

For the life enlightening

The life

That is not frightening

But guides us gently

Towards love

That word whose definition

Is always rising heavenwards

Holy, above.

~

6.

The world seethes

And simmers with noise

Is there not

One voice

Which calls

Throughout –

Which whispers

Silently

Behind

Every shout.
