Thoughts Fly Like Birds

Thoughts Fly Like Birds

~

Do not idolise

Your thoughts

~

Which fly

Like noisy birds

~

And settle for a time

In the tree of the mind

~

Let them fly away

So the wider blue sky

~

And silence

May stay.

~

Inspired by Richard Rohr’s book ‘Immortal Diamond’, which explores the idea of The True Self as a deeper, truer foundation for identity than The False Self. He writes:

“The False Self is just who you think you are – but thinking doesn’t make it so.”

Immortal Diamond, p. viii

Sometimes thoughts are imagined as birds flying into a tree. We have the freedom to let them fly away again, or dwell on them so they start to build unhelpful nests in our minds…
